Hotel Xcaret México is one of the most unusual all-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya. Your stay includes access to Grupo Xcaret parks, airport transportation, park transportation, dining, drinks and more activities than most travelers could fit into a single vacation.
That long list of inclusions is also what makes this resort complicated.
You need to choose the right room area, decide which parks you want to visit, understand transportation schedules and make certain reservations before you arrive. People sometimes compare planning an Xcaret vacation to planning a Disney vacation. The two experiences are very different, but the comparison makes sense when you look at how many decisions need to be made in advance.
So, is Hotel Xcaret México worth its higher price?
For active families and travelers who will use the parks, it can provide an experience that few all-inclusive resorts can match. If you want a quiet resort with a wide, swimmable beach and very little advance planning, I would probably send you somewhere else.
A Note About My Hotel Xcaret México Review
I first stayed at Hotel Xcaret México in 2018, shortly after the resort opened. I spent 24 hours exploring the property, touring the rooms, trying the restaurants and experiencing the All-Fun Inclusive concept firsthand.
The photos and personal observations in this review come from that original stay.
Hotel Xcaret México has expanded considerably since then. I have not personally visited the property since its 2025 expansion, so I will not pretend that I have inspected the current 1,800-suite resort. The updated details in this article come from current resort information and industry sources.
My original stay still gives me valuable context for understanding the property’s design and concept. But travelers should know that today’s Hotel Xcaret México is much larger than the resort shown in my original photos.
What Changed at Hotel Xcaret México?
When I visited, Hotel Xcaret México had approximately 900 suites. Its 2025 expansion added another 900 suites, bringing the current total to approximately 1,800.
The expanded resort now includes 10 Casas, more facilities for children and teenagers, additional adult areas, new pools and waterslides, and a reported total of 20 restaurants.
And the resort is expected to grow again.
Travel Weekly reported that Grupo Xcaret plans to break ground in 2027 on another 600-room expansion, according to the company’s chief hotels officer, Akis Neocleous. Once that expansion is complete, Hotel Xcaret México will have approximately 2,400 accommodations. An opening date for those additional rooms has not been announced.
This growth matters. A review from 2018 cannot tell you what it feels like to stay at the expanded resort in 2026, and the resort may change again as construction continues.
What Is Included at Hotel Xcaret México?
Hotel Xcaret México calls its program All-Fun Inclusive. It combines a traditional all-inclusive resort stay with access and transportation to several Grupo Xcaret parks and experiences.
Current inclusions generally feature:
- Resort accommodations
- Meals and drinks at most included restaurants and bars
- Round-trip transportation between the airport and resort
- Unlimited access to several Grupo Xcaret parks
- Transportation between the resort and included parks
- Xcaret Xailing ferry transportation to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel
- A catamaran experience
- Resort activities, pools and entertainment
Current park access includes Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xplor Fuego, Xenses, Xoximilco and Xenotes. Xenses Insomnia is also listed in the resort’s current FAQ information.
Do not assume every experience works the same way. Some parks have frequent transportation, while others use scheduled departures and require reservations. Certain restaurants and activities also need to be booked ahead.
Inclusions, schedules and reservation policies can change, so I confirm the applicable details for my clients before travel.
Why Hotel Xcaret México Requires More Planning
At a typical all-inclusive resort, you might arrive, look at the restaurant schedule and decide what to do each morning.
Hotel Xcaret México requires more forethought.
You will need to consider:
- Which parks make sense for your family
- How many park days to schedule
- Which experiences require reservations
- Which restaurants you want to try
- Transportation times
- The locations of your room, pools and preferred amenities
- How much time to leave for enjoying the resort itself
- What to pack for the parks and water activities
It is very easy to overbook yourself. You paid for access to the parks, so naturally, you want to see everything. But if you schedule an excursion every day, you may barely experience the resort.
The opposite can happen too. Travelers sometimes arrive without understanding which activities require advance reservations and discover that their first choices are unavailable.

The Rooms at Hotel Xcaret México
During my original stay, I stayed in a River Suite. The room incorporated Mexican artwork, hand-painted shower tiles, locally made furniture and thoughtful lighting. My balcony overlooked the river and had the resort’s signature hammock.
I loved the river view. It felt connected to the property’s landscape and gave me something more interesting to look at than a standard garden or pool view.
The current room selection is much more complicated. Hotel Xcaret México now has 10 Casas with different locations, amenities and intended audiences. There are family-focused sections, adult areas and room categories with different views and benefits.
Choosing a room based only on the category name or website photo can be risky. Location matters at a property this large. A room near the facilities your family plans to use may be more valuable than a room with a better-sounding view located far from your daily activities.
Butler service and additional benefits are tied to qualifying room categories. Do not assume that every upgraded room includes the same services.
Pools, Rivers and the Beach
The natural rivers and coves are still among the features that separate Hotel Xcaret México from a typical Riviera Maya resort.
During my stay, I swam through the resort’s river and explored the small caves and tucked-away areas along the route. There was even a waterslide built into the rock. This was one of my favorite parts of the property.
The expanded resort has added more pools, waterslides and recreation areas for different age groups. That gives families plenty to do without leaving the property.
The beach requires a realistic expectation.
Hotel Xcaret México does not have the kind of long, wide beach that many travelers picture when planning a Caribbean vacation. The shoreline is rocky in places, and the protected coves and rivers are a larger part of the water experience.
If your priority is spending every day on a broad stretch of soft sand with easy ocean swimming, this probably is not the resort I would choose for you. Food and Restaurant Planning
Food was one of the strongest parts of my original stay.
I only had time to try a small portion of what the resort offered, but the meals and service left a strong impression. One bartender made me a gin cocktail with rosemary after I asked him to surprise me. At dinner, our waiter brought additional dishes he thought we should try. At lunch, we could not decide on dessert, so he brought a sampler.
The expanded resort now advertises approximately 20 restaurants, creating far more choices than I encountered in 2018.
More choices also mean more planning. Some restaurants require reservations, some have access rules, and a few dining experiences may cost extra. You should know which meals matter most to you before your arrival instead of assuming every restaurant will be available whenever you want it.

What Are the Xcaret Parks Like?
The park access is the main reason many travelers choose Hotel Xcaret México.
Depending on the park, activities may include underground rivers, snorkeling, zip lines, amphibious vehicles, cultural performances and cenote adventures. There are also evening experiences and transportation to activities beyond the closest parks.
Each park has a different pace and audience.
Xplor appeals to travelers who want zip lines and active adventures. Xel-Há is centered around water activities and snorkeling. Xcaret combines wildlife, cultural attractions, underground rivers and the evening México Espectacular show. Xenses is built around optical illusions and sensory experiences.
You do not have to visit every park to get value from your stay. Choose the ones that match your group and leave time for the resort.
Is Hotel Xcaret México Good for Families?
Yes, especially for families with school-age children or teenagers who enjoy activities.
The resort offers children’s programming, teen spaces, family pools, waterslides and access to parks that can fill several days. Families whose children get restless after one pool day may find far more to do here than at a traditional all-inclusive.
Younger children can enjoy the resort too, but parents should consider height requirements, stamina, transportation and the amount of walking involved at the parks. A long list of included activities does not mean every activity will work for every age.
The size of the expanded property also makes room location more important for families with small children, strollers or mobility concerns.
What About Adults Traveling Without Children?
Hotel Xcaret México is family-friendly, but it has areas intended for adults. Casa Fuego is an adults-only section for guests 18 and older, and the expanded property has introduced additional adult-oriented spaces.
Couples should also compare it with Hotel Xcaret Arte.
Hotel Xcaret México vs. Hotel Xcaret Arte
Hotel Xcaret Arte is Hotel Xcaret México’s adults-only sister property. It accepts guests ages 16 and older. According to the resort’s current policy, guests ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Both resorts use the All-Fun Inclusive concept, but the atmospheres are different.
Hotel Xcaret México is the family-focused option, with facilities and programming for children, teenagers and adults. Hotel Xcaret Arte focuses more heavily on Mexican art, workshops, adult dining and an atmosphere designed for older guests.
Adults traveling without children should compare both resorts before booking. Casa Fuego may provide the adult section you want within Hotel Xcaret México, but Hotel Xcaret Arte may be a better overall match if an adults-only environment matters throughout the trip.
Who Will Get the Most Value From Hotel Xcaret México?
I would consider Hotel Xcaret México for:
- Active families who plan to visit several parks
- Families traveling with older children or teenagers
- Couples who want more activity than a typical resort provides
- Travelers interested in Mexican food, design and cultural programming
- People willing to make reservations and plan parts of the trip in advance
- Guests staying long enough to enjoy both the parks and the resort
- Travelers who value the included transportation and park admissions
The price makes more sense when you use what is included. If your family would otherwise purchase several park tickets, tours and transportation separately, the All-Fun Inclusive model can offer substantial value.
Who Should Probably Choose Another Resort?
I would look elsewhere if:
- A wide, swimmable beach is your top priority.
- You want a small resort that is easy to learn in an afternoon.
- Your ideal vacation involves very few scheduled activities.
- You dislike making restaurant or activity reservations.
- You are unlikely to visit the included parks.
- Long walks and a large resort layout would be difficult for your group.
- You are traveling without children and want a fully adults-only atmosphere.
There is no reason to pay for a long list of parks if you plan to spend the entire trip beside one pool. You may get more for your money at a smaller resort that does the few things you care about especially well.

Is Hotel Xcaret México Worth the Price?
It can be, but only for the right traveler.
Hotel Xcaret México makes the most sense when the parks and activities are central to your vacation. The included transportation, dining and park access can justify a higher resort rate for travelers who will use them.
It makes less sense for someone who wants a simple beach vacation. You would be paying for an enormous collection of activities while ignoring the feature that drives much of the resort’s price.
This is also a resort where poor planning can reduce the value of the stay. Missing restaurant reservations, choosing an inconvenient room location or arriving without a park plan can leave you frustrated after spending a significant amount of money.
Before booking, I would focus on fit. Consider how your group likes to travel, which included experiences you will realistically use and how much structure you want during the vacation.
