Jimmy and Krissy got married a the beautiful all-inclusive Secrets Maroma resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico in October 2023.

I first spoke with them in September 2022 and we quickly jumped into wedding planning. I sent them some great adults-only resort options in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cabo and the Dominican Republic. They ultimately decided on Secrets Maroma. Read on to find out why & learn about their destination wedding experience.

WEDDING & RESORT QUESTIONS 

What were the deciding factors on choosing Secrets Maroma as your wedding resort? 

The reviews of the rooms (provided by Kathryn), all the activities the resort had to offer, the food reviews, and the ocean

What were some of your biggest fears about having a destination wedding? 

The decorations not being what we were anticipating, the weather, hair/makeup provided by the resorts not being what I wanted 

How was your experience working with the wedding coordinator at Secrets Maroma? Were there any challenges? Did they excel in certain areas?

The coordinator was phenomenal! She was always responsive to the emails, even in the beginning stages. It took a couple days at times for a response but she went above and beyond for us for our decorations and ensured everything ran smoothly the day of the wedding. 

Tell me about your wedding. Where was it? Did you have a cocktail hour & reception? What were those like? 

We had our wedding on the beach, and it was beautiful. The natural background of the ocean was beautiful in itself. We had a cocktail hour and reception inside their ballroom due to the rainy weather and we were appreciative of the AC. We did plan to have it at the pool terrace but it worked out to have it inside. The DJ and decor the resort provided was perfect 

Did you splurge on anything wedding-related & would you do it again? 

We splurged on the upgraded decorations to make it personalized for us and yes I would do it again. We also brought along personal items for our guests and the guest book was Polaroids and it’s a great keepsake 

Is there anything you splurged on that wasn’t worth it? 

No! 

Shout out any vendors you loved (makeup/photography/DJ/etc): 

Everyone at the resort!!! The staff was so friendly, they went ABOVE AND BEYOND! The spa did perfectly on the hair and makeup. We used an external photographer and he was AMAZING. Our coordinator was also amazing. The waitstaff at the reception was so friendly and quick, all of our guests had good things to say! 

Anything you would do differently or advice you’d give to other couples planning a destination wedding? 

Trust the process 🙂 I’m type A and this was very challenging but it turned out perfect; I would not change ANYTHING! Even the rainy weather worked out in our favor with some good shots for our photographer! 

What kind of feedback did you get from your guests? This could be about the resort, the wedding, or KP Travel Group. 

Everyone had positive things to say about the resort, and KP travel group. They said it was nice to be checked in and updated on with changes in flight information for transportation to and from the airport.
