The other day I saw a popular influencer ask her followers for resort suggestions. She had a pretty specific wishlist: All-inclusive adults-only boutique resort with a great beach in Riviera Maya.
The recommendations she received were all over the place. They included resorts that cater to families, giant resorts with 1000+ rooms, resorts on terrible beaches, etc.
So now she has to Google all of these ‘perfect’ resort suggestions to check them out. I imagine she was quickly annoyed that the majority of the recommendations were NOT what she envisioned.
What if instead, she started by reaching out to a travel agent that specializes in all-inclusive resorts? A quick conversation with an experienced travel agent and she would have had just 3 resort choices that met her wishlist to review. Easy peasy!
With so much information at our fingertips, it’s easy to let someone else’s opinion influence your vacation choice.
Just because your friend from high school loved a resort, it doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for you. Same thing goes for TripAdvisor. A glance through the top 10 resorts in Playa del Carmen shows me that reviewers are all over the place. Some are obviously attracted to luxury while others loved a resort because it was dirt cheap. And don’t even get me started on Facebook groups…yes, they can be helpful but I also see soooo much incorrect information being shared in these groups.
If you choose the wrong resort for your vacation, there’s a good chance you’ll be unhappy. You work hard for those vacation dollars. Don’t you want to make sure you’re spending them wisely?
